PETROGRAPHY OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL MATERIALS
The meeting took place between 15-17 February at University
of Sheffield Department of Archaeology. It was a great
success and was attended by some 60 participants from
Britain, Europe and North America.
Keynote lectures by leading scholars in the field of
archaeological petrography were followed by some 18
oral presentations and 10 posters on ceramics, paster,
paintings, mortar, mudbrick and metallurgical tools
from prehistoric, classical and historic periods in
the British Isles, mainland Europe, the Mediterannean,
the Near East, Russia, India, Mesoameria and the United
States.
The meeting also hosted a successful microscope workshop
and an AGM of the Ceramic Petrology Group. Information
on future activities of the CPG, starting in 2009 will
be made available on this website soon.
A conference proceedings featuring papers presented
at the weekend as well as other petrographic studies
is planned. For more information contact the organiser.
